Celebrity Good Deed: 3 Good Deeds Oprah is Doing that we Love

When it comes to doing good in the world we all share in the opportunity. Some of us have the ability to donate large sums of money while others donate time and effort. No matter how you lend a helping hand we are equal in our efforts. Then there are are celebrities. Celebrities have the ability to not only donate funds and time but inspire others to do good deeds as well.

One celebrity whose name has become synonymous with charity is Oprah Winfrey.

Oprah Winfrey Inspires

Oprah Winfrey has donated millions of dollars to multiple charity organizations. Not only has she donated to charities, but has donated time and even started her own foundations.

The Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation

One of her most well-known organizations was known as Oprah’s Angel Network. Altogether, the Angel Network raised $80 million, with Oprah covering the administrative costs from her own personal funds. The Angel Network went on to help those who were hurt by Hurricane Katrina and Rita, built 60 schools and provided uniforms and books in 13 countries. The Angel Network is now operated by the Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation.

The Oprah Winfrey Operating Foundation

It’s no secret that Oprah has a passion for helping children get a proper education. In 2007, Oprah built and opened the Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa. In order to keep that school running efficiently, she started the Oprah Winfrey Operating Foundation. The foundation now supports the school’s needs. The school doesn’t only operate with the goal of giving children an education but also creates leaders. Those leaders go on to help their communities and better society.

The US Dream Academy

While the US Dream Academy isn’t a charity started by Oprah, she is a major supporter of the program. The US Dream Academy runs nationwide and is meant to help children after school who have one parent incarcerated. The goal is to stop the cycle of incarceration and Oprah has donated over $1 million to the project. Oprah has been reported to be the single biggest supporter of the project and is just one of many charities to which she donates time or money.

Not everyone has the funds or time to donate as much as Oprah does, but that shouldn’t stop you. Stop you from donating what you can, stop you from lending a helping hand or stop you from getting involved in your community. Instead, Oprah is an inspiration to everyone. Coming from a rocky past, Oprah has turned things around to become a hero to millions of people and an inspiration to billions.
